Description Lapo Calamandrei 2015-02-12 16:29:03 UTC
The separating lines are not usefull at all imho making the whole view more noisy.
There's also a double border with the column headers border which is not trivially fixable via css (it needs a gross hack mostly), so if you REALLY REALLY want those lines use the bottom border not the top one.
I think this is a bad idea even because, as with any other added "feature", we'll have to commit to it for the time being and when/if we'll have a smarter widget which would give us more design freedom those separating lines could be a limiting factor we can nicelly do without.

I would like to have Allan voice here as well

I just discovered this in 3.16. Those separating lines feel like obstacles when I scan down the list with my eyes. For me it is a regression from 3.14. And there seems to be too much space between items, which is a bit eased with scaling down a level of item size. And the current size scaling has only 3 levels, it would be better if it could scale with more levels to fit with different resolutions.

Those lines are usefull when the name column is large (for instance in maximized windows) to figure out which sizes matches which file). They serve as a visual guide. How do you suggest we address this if we remove the line?
Comment 4 Lapo Calamandrei 2015-06-23 22:55:09 UTC
Since you can't distinguish one from another, those lines work as a guide if you use a finger/pointer/whatever to follow.
A single line would work as a visual guide those are just noise to me.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
