GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 742302
Do not autocomplete until enter or tab is pressed
Last modified: 2018-06-29 23:37:17 UTC
The autocomplete function while entering the "Description" of the transactions makes entry of text, which starts with the same characters as an existing one(s), quite difficult and slow for the user. Autocomplete should be changed to a proposal only and wait for confirmation by the user (enter or tab key) and never ever autocomplete on its own. If not possible, at least an autocomplete "off" option in the Preferences would be helpfull. == Details: The following transaction exists: Transfer to UniCredit The user wants to enter a new transaction with description: Transfer to Charles == What happens: Once the user types the 4th letter ("s"), GnuCash autocompletes to "Transfer to UniCredit" and _moves_ cursor at the end of the line. When the user continues to type (typical for anyone who can fast type), the resulting Description looks like: Transfer to UniCreditfer to Charles. And the user has to spend considerable amount of time to correct the entry. == Reproducability Always. Occassionally, GnuCash autocompletes even earlier. == Impact There is a considerable amount of transaction descriptions, which are not influenceable by the user - typically pmts by credit card, ATM withdrawals, on-line payments - many of these start the same, but finish differently.
