Description antistress 2015-01-03 11:18:37 UTC
Hi,

Reading this Rob Clark's statement (he's freedreno developer) [1], it seems that Wayland offers some tricks to save power : it would be great if Mutter could use them.

Thanks !

[1] "When there are wayland compositors which can utilize hw overlays I would expect big savings in some scenarios. It is pretty common perf/power trick done on mobile devices. That and taking advantage of buffer-age." - see http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?111654-Does-Using-GNOME-On-Wayland-Save-Power&p=461218#post461218

We do use buffer-age. And overlays are waiting until he's done with atomic :)

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
