Screenshot of top bar calendar showing date in black font

When GNOME Shell is first started (from GDM login screen) or restarted (with 'r' at Alt+F2), the date text above the calendar in the calendar drop-down from the top bar is displayed in black font. Since the background of the drop-down is also black, this renders the date illegible. The date text comes back in normal/legible white font after opening and closing the drop-down a couple times.

Not show stopping (because I can get the white font eventually), but annoying. I have attached a screenshot.

Some hopefully relevant information:
Distribution: Arch Linux

gtk3 3.14.5
cantarell-fonts 0.0.16
