Description J.B. Nicholson 2014-12-10 03:23:10 UTC
This is related to the issue raised in bug 740134 in that both bugs describe odd selection behavior.

I tested this on GNU/Linux, but I imagine this happens on any OS.

EasyTAG lets the user double-click a media entry to select the entire set of media files in the same folder. But EasyTAG will, under some conditions, scroll the media list so that only the last file in the folder is seen.

Here are the ingredients to reproduce the issue:
- a folder with a lot of EasyTAG-readable media files in it (I used FLAC files). How many, exactly, depends on the height of the EasyTAG window. I say put 5 fewer than shows in EasyTAG's middle view where the media file metadata is listed so you can see metadata from all of these files with metadata from some other files listed above and below these files. I'll call the files from this folder the "main album".
- other folders with other files sharing the same parent folder as the main album. This will make sure EasyTAG will show you multiple folders of files simultaneously. Make sure there are plenty of EasyTAG-readable media files in these other folders.

Steps to reproduce the bug:
1. Load EasyTAG on the folder with the many files (described in the first "ingredient" above). You should see the other media files from the neighboring folders as well.
2. Scroll the list so that all files in the main album show simultaneously.
3. Double-click any of the media from the main album. You'll see the entire main album become selected without scrolling.
4. Scroll the list up so only some of the media in the main album are visible in the view. The rest of the media in the main album are now below the bottom edge of the view.
5. Double-click any of the media from the main album. You'll see the entire main album become selected and scroll the main album so now the bottom-most media from the main album is shown at the top of the view.

I think no scrolling should occur at all on selection, regardless of how one selects media; selection should happen but the list should reflect the selection and leave the list at the position where it began unless scrolling is called for by the user (by scrolling with the GUI controls, shift-based selecting with the keyboard).

I didn't expect double-clicking the media in a folder to scroll the view under any circumstance.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new enhancement request ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/easytag/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
