Description arverne 2014-12-07 16:54:41 UTC
Shotwell create himself events for each date of the photos imported.
These events are called by there date and can be seen in a tree (left part of the main window).
If you want to rename different events, often, after 2 or 3, it become impossible : the keyboard has no more effect. By a right click, you can select the name of the event, but nothing happen when you use the keyboard.
Only one way : close Shotwell and run it again.

Ubuntu 14.10 64 bits
Shotwell 0.20.2

I'm unable to reproduce this. One question: do you have IBus install/enabled on your system? Does it help if you disable it?

If that's not the case, we'll need more information about your system and how we can reproduce this bug.
Comment 2 arverne 2014-12-10 18:28:21 UTC
I'd made a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.10 64 bits with some others applications.
Phenom FX8320 ; Asrock mothercard ; graphic card : Radeon 6850

IBus : I don't know.

The answer at : dpkg-query -W | grep -i IBus
is :
gir1.2-ibus-1.0 1.5.8-2ubuntu2
ibus 1.5.8-2ubuntu2
ibus-gtk3:amd64 1.5.8-2ubuntu2
ibus-pinyin 1.5.0-3ubuntu1
ibus-table 1.5.0.is.1.5.0.20130419-2
libibus-1.0-5:amd64 1.5.8-2ubuntu2
libusageenvironment1 2014.01.13-1
libusb-0.1-4:amd64 2:0.1.12-24
libusb-1.0-0:amd64 2:1.0.17-1ubuntu2
libusbmuxd2:amd64 1.0.9-1
libustr-1.0-1:amd64 1.0.4-3ubuntu2

I don't know how to disable...

I suspect you're seeing this bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1276186

I think the way to disable IBus is like this:

System Settings -> Language Support -> Keyboard input method system: None

You'll need to log out and log back in again. Let me know if that solves your issue.
Comment 4 arverne 2014-12-10 21:28:48 UTC
Problem about the same with iBus disabled.
Sometimes as well, when I select "rename" in the contextuel menu, the focus go to the next event instead of editing the event.

All that doesn't happen at the beginning but after you try to rename several events.
Comment 5 Jim Nelson 2015-02-04 02:17:14 UTC
Are you still seeing this problem? If so, maybe a video or precise steps on how to reproduce.
Comment 6 arverne 2015-02-06 14:53:53 UTC
Here is the video of the bug http://ovh.to/T8qCYh8

I renamed several events and you can see when I get to 2014 / septembre / "Mariage Anne Pellicier", I am no more able to change anything of this event name.
Comment 7 arverne 2015-03-04 11:32:09 UTC
At the end, this problem could not be due to Shotwell.
I got the same thing in Nautilus and I found this bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1385292
Comment 8 Jim Nelson 2015-03-04 20:32:17 UTC
Ok, I'm going to close as not Shotwell's bug.

Note that the bug you're linking to is also about iBus. There are instructions there for disabling iBus.
