GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 740641
Change default to TERM=xterm-256color
Last modified: 2014-12-01 20:27:33 UTC
Requested here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1166428 I agree it'd be a better default. Might be problematic for some users (ssh'ing to an ancient system where there's no such terminfo -- but they probably know how to fix it), but the current TERM=xterm is also problematic for some users without a trivial workaround (e.g. you can't have a profile that automatically launches an app using 256 colors, without writing a wrapper script). If really required, gnome-terminal's Compatibility tab could have a new setting to bring back TERM=xterm. Any objections?
