Description kendell clark 2014-11-20 03:00:29 UTC
when orca attempts to access lists in apps that utilize the wxwidgets set, both version 2.8 and version 3.0, list views are inaccessible. Examples include the games list in the dolphin gamecube/wii emulator and the 7zip file manager. Orca cannot detect that lists are present, and so does not present them

Acknowledging this bug. Still need to get the packages -- and really, I should get whatever wxwidgets demo app they have. I'm working on some webkit accessibility stuff at the moment, but I'll try to help you triage this one soon.

I'll add audacity to the list of apps with problems. When you first open audacity, there's a sort of introduction window that pops up. First though, there's a frame with a list of installable plugins, which orca can neither see nor navigate. The buttons are accessible though. Once that's gone, an introduction window comes up with html help, which orca can't see or interact with. Once you get into audacity proper, press alt+g to open the generate menu, then s for silence. There's some sort of field here which looks like a combo box, but you use left and right arrow to navigate incraments of silence, hours, minutes, seconds, and up and down to change. Should this be a table? Anyway, I suspect wx widgets, because this works fine on windows, or at least mellisa says. I did some brief tests and nvda reads all of the stuff orca will not. Debug file is attached. Sorry to keep comparing orca to windows, it's different obviously, but I suspect once these issues get ironed out lots of apps that were either inaccessible or marginally accessible will get much better.

attached a debug file describing a11y issues in dolphin emulator. Same deal here. List control isn't focusable or navigable with orca. I tried to left click on a couple of the panels to get into the list, which will sometimes work, but no luck. I also went to and navigated the gamecube pad settings, to show the accessible issues, if any there.

added a debug file showing the 7zip file manager issues. This ends the list of wx widgets apps I've tried to use, so there probably won't be any mroe debug files unless I get feedback from the community. I need to grab some sort of wx widgets demo app and take a look at this myself.

I've just tested dolphin emulator with latest orca master. I still get the inaccessible lists issue. I'm using gnome 3.16 on fedora 22.

Sorry for the delay. A mac user has already reported this issue against wxWidgets: http://trac.wxwidgets.org/ticket/15411

I've since commented that it also impacts wxGTK (though the issue summary already states it's all platforms but Windows). That comment seems to be awaiting moderation, presumably because I just created a new account on their issue tracker.

Regardless, there's nothing I can do in Orca about this. Sorry. Closing as NOTGNOME.
