GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 740391
Desktop extension setting no-ops Nautilus(files) from the dash and from 3.14 tweak
Last modified: 2014-11-20 09:44:59 UTC
Using Fedora 20, there is correct functionality. There is no issue to indicate. Using Fedora 21 beta (actually, all the alpha and beta versions), and 3.14, one cannot use desktop setting (allow home, trash and network to appear on the desktop). Here is how to create -- the scenarios. user logs into system with clear desktop starts gnome-tweak-tool selects extensions and select desktop enables desktop option At this point Files(dash) or nautilus no longer works. It is a no-op. That is, clicking on files does nothing whatsoever. Unchecking desktop option restores files/nautilus functionality. Scenario two. Start files and leave active (ie, home folder is presented). Start gnome-tweak-tool enable extensions, and select desktop A second home folder will open. Close gnome-tweak-tool close files(nautilus) Nautilus works as expected UNTIL THE NEXT LOGOUT/LOGIN Without the home/trash can on the desktop, setup by the tweak-tool, Gnome is not user friendly and difficult to use.
This problem is a usability issue, as some extensions that one installs on the panel include Files/nautilus. When it is a no-op in the dash, it is a no-op on the panel downloaded extensions. By the way, clicking on the home folder (when desktop extension is active) opens nautilus. HOWEVER, when the desktop is hidden by an open window, we can only move the window aside to open the home folder, and from there, the nautilus list of disks, etc. That gives an advantage to having a panel tweak.
