The sidebar list has some small layout issues:

 * The rows are too tall.
 * There's a visible gap between the selected row and the left-hand edge of the sidebar.
 * There is no border to separate the sidebar from the right-hand pane.
 * If you make the window taller, you can see that the sidebar has a fixed height, and that there is a different background colour below.

It might be interested to try out the new GTK+ sidebar widget - it might help with some of these issues.

I think all of those have been fixed in the current git master.

GTK+ sidebar looks useful, thanks.  I'm going to use it, once figuring out how to put icons near labels.
