Description Sven Arvidsson 2014-11-16 20:27:13 UTC
Hi,

I have the same user account on several systems. This makes it quite confusing when it comes to media servers, they are all named "Sven Arvidsson's media" with no indication of what system the files are on.

In contrast, the personal file sharing function uses the name "sa's public files on gwynn" which is a little bit better, but often gets shortened to "sa's public files..." in the Nautilus sidebar.

I'm not sure if this bug belongs here, or with gnome-settings, please reassign if necessary.

Thanks in advance,

The name is configurable in the config. I'm not sure if that's editable in gnome-settings.
Comment 2 Sven Arvidsson 2014-11-17 12:40:09 UTC
Great! That solves the problem for me.

But I think it might still be a good idea for it to be somewhat more unique, or editable.
Comment 3 Jens Georg 2015-02-13 12:59:11 UTC
0.26 will have $user's media on $hostname as a default. Moving to gnome-settings for further discussion.
Comment 4 André Klapper 2021-06-09 16:07:43 UTC
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new bug report at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
