Update programs after initial install, start X windows, Crashs on start, No programs due to fatal error.

Application "panel" (process1215) has crashed due to a fatal error. (Segmentation fault)

This time, it happened immediately after doing a re-install.
Before, it was happening after running up2date.

>How-To-Repeat:
Crassh happened at time of load-in for X-windows.
My command at console was 'startx'

just try deleting ~/.gnome/panel.d/* and the panel should be happy
again...

there is some weird bug we are tracking with the panel and laptops
