logging into redhat linux 7.2 for the first time from a user account at run level 3, using startx.   Many application crashes.  Navigation bar at bottom of screen not built.  No way to terminate session except by locating/killing gnome-session.

Window manager appears otherwise to be OK.

>How-To-Repeat:
log into user account as pty session; startx

As gnome comes up after displaying lighthouse logo, many crashes.

Crash occurs during construction of "panel" object.  All crash dialogs
(of which there are many) indicate "panel" as being crashed component.

try deleting your ~/.gnome/panel.d dir, it is corrupted.
