GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 73741
Some panel menu right-click usability issues
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
- Currently, to create a new menu from an existing submenu, you have to right-click a launcher on that submenu, then select "Entire Menu->Add as new menu". It would be much more intuitive if you could right-click on the parent menu item itself (e.g. "Accessories", "Games" etc.) and pop-up a menu containing: Add to Panel as _Menu Add to Panel as _Drawer --- Add _Item... --- _Properties but currently there is no right-click menu for such items. - As an alternative to right-clicking, you should be able to focus a menu item and press Shift+F10 to pop up its context menu. This is not currently possible, the whole menu structure just disappears when you try it. - All items on a menu item's right-click menu need accelerator keys. Also suggest renaming/re-ordering the menu items on this menu, to something like: _Add to Panel _Run... --- _Delete --- _Properties (no ellipsis) The 'Entire Menu' submenu could be removed if you could right-click on the parent menu item as described above. Which would be no bad thing, as "Entire Menu" is a horrible phrase :) - Right-clicking on an item on the Actions menu activates that item. For consistency with the Applications menu, this probably shouldn't happen-- it should either pop up a similar context menu to that for launchers on the Applications menu, or the right click should just be ignored.
Calum: FYI, gnome-panel 2 bugs should be filed under 'gnome-panel' and not gnome-core.
adding myself to cc list Be sure to let me know when you make this change, and either change this bug to "fix the docs" or some such wording, or file a new bug to update the docs to match.
It would be great if we could add a "Browse in Nautilus" item to the menu context menu(see bug 99110). This would be a much better way to get at the menus in nautilus than start-here:
This is probably really a dup of #93506.
