Our Arabic reviewer reported this issue:

Overview: Incorrect and inconsistent translation of "log out"

Steps to Reproduce:
01.Log onto machine as root user in Gnome Classic
02.Click on Power icon in Gnome toolbar
03.Click on your user name in menu.
04.Click 'Logout'
05.Check 'Log out' dialog
Actual Results: اخرج

Expected Results: تسجيل خروج

اخرج needs to be changed to تسجيل خروج in gnome-shell and gnome-session.

"خروج" is also an acceptable translation to leave this word as short as possible if the two word solution mentioned about will cause a truncation on this button.

i. e.:
Actual Results: اخرج
Expected Results: خروج

Strings affected:

gnone-shell:
msgctxt "button"
msgid "Log Out"

gnome-session-2.0:
#: ../tools/gnome-session-save.c:65
msgid "Log out"

Internal Novell reference: BNC#884414
Comment 1 Stanislav Brabec 2014-09-19 15:52:32 UTC
And more problems:

#: ../js/ui/endSessionDialog.js:86
msgctxt "title"
msgid "Power Off"
msgstr "إطفاء الحاسوب"

Actual Results: إطفاء الحاسوب

Expected Results: إيقاف التشغيل

Internal Novell reference: BNC#884413

gnome-shell:
#: ../js/ui/windowManager.js:56
msgid "Do you want to keep these display settings?"
msgstr "أتريد الإبقاء على هذه الإعدادات؟"

Change:
أتريد الإبقاء على هذه الإعدادات؟
to:
هل تريد الاحتفاظ بهذه الإعدادات؟

#: ../js/ui/windowManager.js:79
msgid "Keep Changes"
msgstr "أبق على التغييرات"

change:
أبق على الإعدادات
to:
الاحتفاظ بهذه الإعدادات

There is also a proposal to make translation of "Cancel" consistent. Programs use "ألغ" and "إلغاء". Our Arabic reviewer proposes to use only one of them:

Actual Results: ألغ
Expected Results: إلغاء

The incorrect translation for "Cancel" appears
in several locations:
usr/share/locale/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-control-center-2.0.mo
msgid "Cancel"
msgstr "ألغِ"
This "incorrect" translation does not exist in gnome-control-center-2.0.po in
subversion.

usr/share/locale/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-shell.mo
msgid "Cancel"
msgstr "ألغِ"

usr/share/locale/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gvfs.mo
msgid "Cancel"
msgstr "ألغِ"

usr/share/locale/ar/LC_MESSAGES/nautilus.mo
msgid "Cancel"
msgstr "ألغِ"

The actual occurrence related to this bug is coming from:
usr/share/locale/ar/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-shell.mo
msgid "Cancel"
msgstr "ألغِ"

There are more inconsistencies even outside GNOME, again using mix of both translations.

Comment 3 Stanislav Brabec 2014-09-19 16:35:07 UTC
And incorrect and inconsistent translation of "sign in"

For example in Gnome Login screen appears. Click the 'Not Listed' link

Gnome login -'User Name' dialog appears. Enter root as user name and click
Next

Gnome login -'Password' dialog appears. Enter an incorrect password and
click Sign In

Check Gnome Login-Password' dialog for defects

Actual Results: ادخل

Expected Results: تسجيل الدخول

#: ../js/gdm/authPrompt.js:215
msgctxt "button"
msgid "Sign In"
msgstr "ادخل"
