GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 736053
Add a url scheme handler to gnome-software
Last modified: 2015-10-26 14:30:43 UTC
Adding a url scheme handler to gnome-software means websites could have software://some-app.desktop links that would open the gnome-software page for that app, allowing users to install it if they wish.
Seems questionable to both me and Rafal - we have no idea what OS the user is coming from and if it will be able to understand this non-standard scheme. Or even if it understands it, it may still fail because the app is not present in the repositories, or a million of other possible error conditions.
KDE just added support for appstream:some-app.desktop links: http://www.proli.net/2015/10/16/appstream-offers-a-cross-distribution-identifier-for-applications/ I pushed a branch for the same thing in gnome-software, does it look good to you Elad? https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-software/log/?h=wip/kalev/x-scheme-handler/appstream
