Check buttons are not visible if shown in a menu item or a tree view.
Attached are two screenshots of Audacious which show the problem.

My fault, after installing adwaita-icon-theme the check buttons are displayed.
However they are always displayed checked.

I'm also seeing this on Fedora 21: checked checkboxes in menus are only visible when hovered. The adwaita-icon-theme package is installed.

$ rpm -q adwaita-icon-theme 
adwaita-icon-theme-3.13.5-1.fc21.noarch
$ rpm -q gtk3
gtk3-3.13.7-1.fc21.x86_64

Seems to be fixed in trunk. But I can see a similar problem with HighContrast. They are only visible during mouse down there.

Addressed in gnome-themes-standard master, including popovers.
