Description Ritesh Khadgaray ( irc:ritz) 2014-08-13 14:54:09 UTC
Currently, self contact is hidden from list. Would be nice if this is listed on the top as "User Name (me)" . Would allow me to set my preferred contact/email address.
Comment 1 Erick Perez Castellanos 2014-08-14 12:58:25 UTC
Setting you preferred email address is not Contacts intended use. Contacts don't talk with mail applications so it won't do any good to st your preferred mail address there.

As in edit/update my details. My own details (is-user flag) are otherwise hidden. This would allow me to later email my contact via evolution to another person.

I'll mark this as enhacement, and it will sits around till we have a shring framework

Allan: Would you mind giving your input as the designer here? I'm not against it per se, but I'd like to know your take on this before I start anything on this.

I quite like the idea of being able to edit your own details. In my mind, the main reason to have this would to allow sharing your contact details with others, so having a way to do that would be important (maybe if we ever get a sharing framework that would be the way to do it).

If "share my contact details with others" is a use case for this feature, we may also want to consider being able to have multiple sets of details. For example, you might want to have a professional and a personal contact card that you can share.

I agree with Erick that using this to set email preferences isn't appropriate (assuming that's what's being suggested).

Cool, good to know you also support this!

Now, I was wondering: do we show something in the UI to express that a given contact is considered to be the user's own contact details? Do we add it to the top of the contact list (and how does that play with putting the favorites there as well)? Do we add a " (Myself)" suffix (or as a dim label) in the contact list and/or the contact pane?

Some mockups which attempt to answer these questions:

However, to reiterate: without having a way to share the user's own contact card, I'm not sure what the point is in having it there.
