GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 73471
Transform tool should have a "lock ratio" checkbox
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
The transform tool's scaling mode should have a "lock ratio" checkbox, such that it can be scaled without changing the aspect ratio of the image. You can theoretically hold down Ctrl+Alt to acheive this effect, but it doesn't work very well - the scaling doesn't match the position of the cursor very well, and it gets worse if you move back and forth between bigger and smaller.
This looks like a duplicate of bug #51108, which should be fixed in gimp-1.3.x (and in the future gimp-1.4). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 51108 ***
This is not a duplicate. There are two issues here: (1) It might make sense to add a Keep Aspect ratio toogle since the fact that combination of Ctrl and Alt achieves this result is not obvious. (2) The algorithm used to achieve the fixed aspect ratio can indeed be improved. As described by the reporter it often happens that the handle diverges a lot from the cursor position which makes it difficult to setup the desired scaling.
OK, I understand your point of view. But bug #51108 will only be fixed when all "hidden" tool options are visible in the user interface, so this should also include the "lock aspect ratio" part. I agree that the algorithm should be improved.
The user interface part of this report has been fixed. The tool options show a tooltip that explains that enabling "Keep Width" and "Keep Height" will lock the aspect ratio. What remains open is the fact that the mouse handling still sucks.
Just discovered that this report is a duplicate of bug #68106. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 68106 ***
