Description Adam Batkin 2014-08-12 02:10:43 UTC
There does not appear to be a way to disable the drag-to-unlock feature of the screensaver or blanker or whatever it's called.

It would be wonderful if an option to do this was provided (and if one exists, a pointer to the documentation would be useful, as a lot of Googling turned up nothing). Even if it's a hidden (but documented) option.

Please provide a usecase.
Problems cannot be solved without explaining the actual problem. :)

The use case is "I want to be able to shake my mouse (or press a single key) and see my desktop because that's how I like to work". In other words, I want it to work like every screensaver on every other PC platform that I've ever seen.

Drag-to-unlock makes a lot of sense if you have a touchscreen. But I don't, and I suspect that a large percentage of Linux-on-the-Desktop users don't have touchscreens either.

Some additional notes:
* I personally find this behavior confusing. On every computer that I've ever owned, any input device makes the screensaver go away. And if I had to explain how to make it go away to "my grandmother" I think she'd laugh at me (again, assuming no touchscreen, which I think is the majority of PC users)
* I see no benefit from the extra step. There may be one, but I just don't see it, so this just makes it take more time to go from blank screen to desktop
* I'm not suggesting that this become the default behavior for all users (I'll leave that discussion to somewhere else). I am only suggesting that there be some type of option, even if it's hidden, so that power users can have this behavior as an option

So this is about the screen shield being shown even when (automatic) screen lock is disabled - this is already covered in bug 696330 (and to some extend in bug 720656), so marking as duplicate of the former.
