when I ask for a report, any report, all I get is a blank screen! At the very bottom of the screen is a line (right above the horizontal scroll bar) that seems to indicate something is happening for a few seconds, but no report comes up.

This bug report isn't very useful because it doesn't describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html and add a more useful description to this bug.

This sounds like a duplicate of the infamous bug 645273.

Can you please follow the workaround described in https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=645273#c40 and report back if this solves your problem ?

I followed the steps in comment 40. On the last step I did the IE thing with the same results -- it didn't work. I then unchecked the box for Enable access to this program and checked the radio button for Internet Explorer, clicked OK and checked my GnuCash Reports -- they worked! Thanks.
