Description Alexandre BM (:rednaks) 2014-07-25 17:19:16 UTC
As many users was requesting it, Ctrl-Tab is considered as invalid accelerator as it seems that you are not considering it as a bug (see bug #12394 ) since it's a GTK+ restriction.

I figured out that there was a little hack to use Ctrl-Tab as shortcuts by modifing manually the settings using gsettings, ant actually it's working fine

I described the hack in a little blog post [1]

PS: if there is a way to fix it, would you like to mentor me ? I would be happy to work on it.

Ctrl-Tab is the standard "switch tab" shortcut in many, many applications. I consider it a bug that it is not possible (in the UI) to configure Gnome Terminal to use that shortcut. Within just 2 days of using Gnome Terminal, I have hit this problem at least a dozen times. I am a heavy user of many tabs in my terminal, and this bugs makes Gnome Terminal near unusable for me.

The blog post mentioned in the original post unfortunately is no longer available, so I could not yet try working around this deficiency my editing config files.

As comment 0 says, it's working fine you if configure it manually with gsettings(1) tool or dconf-editor.

The keybindings editor UI doesn't allow inputting this value however, since it uses GTK_CELL_RENDERER_ACCEL_MODE_GTK. The 'fix' would be to change that to
GTK_CELL_RENDERER_ACCEL_MODE_OTHER, but that may have other consequences, which I haven't looked at yet.

> configure it manually with gsettings(1) tool or dconf-editor.

For the record, that involves setting /org/gnome/terminal/legacy/keybindings/next-tab to <Primary>Tab, and /org/gnome/terminal/legacy/keybindings/prev-tab to <Primary><Shift>Tab.
