GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 733153
Ambiguous view of buttons in search dialog Linux version
Last modified: 2018-06-29 23:31:53 UTC
Created attachment 280637 [details] In this screenshot the status "Void" button was selected and the focus was moved to the "Frozen" button. You cannot see that the "Voided" button was selected. When using release 2.6.3 (rev 4e4a032+ on 2014-04-08) in Ubuntu Linux 12.04: Start in an account register such as a credit card register. Use ctrl-f to bring up the search dialog. In the search criteria area use the down arrow in the left hand buton below the "Add" button then select "Reconcile". Buttons for "Is/Is Not" and the statuses Not Cleared, Cleared, Reconciled, Frozen and Voided appear. While another issue with the "Is/Is Not" button failing was addressed in Bug 733107, it is also not possible to see whether the Not Cleared, Cleared, Reconciled, Frozen and Voided buttons are or are not selected. Also there should be a description on the reconcile status criterion selection page for all operating systems explaining that: "The current dialog works like this: each of the buttons corresponds to one of the values that can appear in the "reconciled" column of a split. If the "is" option is selected it will find any split whose status correspond to a selected button. If "is not" is selected it will find any split whose status does not match a selected button." as Mike Alexander described in that bug resolution.
Thank you for reporting this. For the next release I have replaced the toggle buttons with check buttons, which are much better suited for yes/no values. I have also simplified the other boolean options like "Balanced" or "IsPaid?". They are now represented by only one single check box instead of the confusing "is/is not" "yes/no" combination. As there are no translatable string changes, I have decided to add this to the stable branch, considering this a usability bug." Will first appear in gnucash 2.6.14.
Note, the help already explains how a combination of the buttons is to be interpreted. So I'll skip altering the documentation.
