demonstration

1. Make a text box and type "foo" in it.
2. Select all (ctrl+a), change the font family/size/color
3. Go to the beginning, before the letter "f",
with either the Home key or left arrow

Result:
- The properties are reset
- If you type new characters, they will be in a different style

Basically there is no way to add new text before the beginning and keep the same style. The only workaround I have is to type between "f" and the first "o" in "foo", then delete the "f" and recreate it at the proper place.

You could also set the style for the text layer itself in the text tool options.
