GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 73257
No control of tool-tip timing
Last modified: 2006-07-03 23:20:49 UTC
Package: control-center Severity: normal Version: 2.00 Synopsis: No control of tool-tip timing Bugzilla-Product: control-center Bugzilla-Component: other capplets Description: Description of Problem: As above Steps to reproduce the problem: N/A Actual Results: Expected Results: Expect to be able to set the delay before Tool-tips appear. Also, once they appear, they're shown for all subsequent fly-overs; should be optional- i.e. expected behaviour (for me) is that once the mouse is moved, there should be another timeout before tooltips appear again. At present it appears the timer appears to be reset after a certain mouse velocity is reached. How often does this happen? Owen: is this actually a gtk enhancement request? Or is it gtk functionality that control-center doesn't implement?
Yes, it would require GTK+ enhancements ... the necessary enhancements are mentioned in bug 50619. That's a fairly blanket bug, and the more massive changes in there aren't really required for this, though we do have the problem that the current API exposes void gtk_tooltips_set_delay (GtkTooltips *tooltips, guint delay); So, we'd have to figure what to do if that was called and conflicted with the user's setting.

Is this something we still want to do?
Is that something that should be changed by applications?
