GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 732262
Search results are not truthful to specific inquires
Last modified: 2014-06-28 12:05:06 UTC
Created attachment 279281 [details] A screen shot of the bug OS: Fedora 20 32bit Gnome Shell 3.10.4 As an example the bug is actual in the following case: 1. Install three or more web-browsers 2. Type in the search box "web" 3. Get a limited list of results and not what expected (Web aka Epiphany) If on step 2 inquire word "internet" will get a result of only two items "Firefox" and "Network" from settings. That's it, excluding the fact that there are several internet messaging apps installed and web browsers. By filling this bug I hope that the developers will take a look into this issue and improve the search system in Gnome-Shell, as well as make possible to find things on the system, even though the spelling might be incorrect.

Agreed - we can only match on information that we actually have. The "Keywords" field has been added to the desktop entry spec precisely to improve search results, applications should set it accordingly. (I should add that we already match on most fields in desktop files including GenericName, so if a browser cannot be even be bothered to set that to "Web Browser" or similar, there is not much we can do about it)
