It seems the text color inside all-day event bubbles is hardcoded to white, as the attached screenshot shows.

When the color is too light, text should be black.

Similarly, it might be a good idea to add a quasi-black (dark gray) border around those bubbles when it is detected that their contrast is too low.

California is not under active development anymore and saw its last non-cosmetic code changes in March 2016: https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/california/commits/master

Its codebase has been archived in https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/california/issues/1
