Just to give you some feedback.

I am in the process of migrating from iPhoto to Shotwell. My main reason being that I am annoyed at Apples vendor-lockin approach.

I am impressed with Shotwell so far and I realize fully that iPhoto has had a head start so far and so naturally has more features. Hopefully the Shotwell team has enough time and resources to add more features.

One feature that is sorely missing is that of Face Detection like in iPhoto.

Scenario:

I just added 20k photos to Shotwell, having to go through them all manually in order to tag them manually is making me twitch.

At least if there was a face detection feature that could take care of the most important people I want to tag.
