GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 730706
On Shutdown, CD ejects, but "remove the disc" prompt not displayed
Last modified: 2014-06-12 01:46:24 UTC
I own a Foxconn model nt-A3700-0H0WBANA book-sized computer. I just now ran 0.18.0-5 on that computer for the first time. When I was done, I doubled-chicked on the big red "EXIT" button, then selected the "Shutdown" option and clicked "OK". As usual, the CD was ejected from the CD drive and then the message appeared on the console: The system is going down for a system halt NOW! That was it. The system just stayed like that for a long long long time. It never actually powered down. I finally had to reach 'round the back and unplug the power cord in order to get it to shut down. Not very convenient.
Thank you Ron for your interest in improving GParted Live and reporting this issue. GParted Live is based upon upstream Debian Live (SID). There have been problems with upstream Debian Live (SID) and ejecting CDs, and also with non-display of the "Remove CD and press enter" prompt. Can't eject CD (copy to RAM) http://gparted-forum.surf4.info/viewtopic.php?id=17152 Until the problem is resolved, you might try pressing "Enter" after removing the CD. Alternatively, many computers will shutdown if you press an hold the power button.
Yes, I did suspect that it might be a Linux problem, and not so much a GParted problem. But I thought that I ought to report it anyway, just in case.
Problem confirmed while testing on some computer systems using /home/gedakc/Downloads/gparted-live-0.19.0-beta1-i486.iso. Note that some computer systems on shutdown do eject the CD and show the following prompt: Please remove the disc, close the tray (if any) and press ENTER to continue: This works properly on my VMWare Virtual Machine, and also Virtualbox Virtual Machine. Renaming report title from: Shutdown does not work to: On Shutdown, CD ejects, but "remove the disc" prompt not displayed
Due to the problem with eject and the prompt not always being displayed, the CD/DVD tray is no longer ejected on shutdown or reboot. This change was made to avoid confusion caused when the CD tray was ejected, but no prompt to "Please remove the disc, close the tray (if any) and press ENTER to continue" was displayed, and the system did not shutdown or reboot. This change has been implemented on GParted Live 0.19.0-1.
