Description stevenospam2000 2014-05-11 12:45:31 UTC
I recently converted from quicken and am missing the ability to specify a date range to include in a budget report. For example, I'd like to see a budget report for the first 5 months of the year with the actual, budgeted, dif columns for each month and the year. I'd like to be able to run the report in July and only see the Jan. - May expenses.
Comment 1 Carsten Rinke 2014-06-20 06:35:16 UTC
I confirm that this is a useful enhancement request.

I vote for that someone with permission should set this bug into status NEW.
(... and update the severity to 'enh'.)

Patch to be applied on GnuCash 2.6.3

This patch I extracted from the git master branch, commit d9628ceae9c3e187..

The solution was developed by Dmitry Pavlov, and the documentation together with the source can be found here:
http://blog.dnpavlov.com/2014/03/gnucash-budget-report-enhancement.html

I put it here as a patch
- to provide it for other users who do not keep up with the latest master but stick to the current release
- to suggest to close this bug
- to suggest to use it as a backport to maybe release it with 2.6.4 ;-)

I downloaded new budget.scm and replaced the file on my GnuCash 2.6.3 Windows 7 64bit system. If the new budget.scm file is in the directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\share\gnucash\guile-modules\gnucash\report\standard-reports
GnuCash will not load. During startup it gets to the loading standard reports message and then nothing. I haven't found a log for the reason GnuCash terminates but maybe I don't know where to look.

Is there a trace file available? (see http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile)

Anyway, you should continue this discussion on the gnucash-user mailing list - I think your issue it is not directly connected to this bug and you will hit a bigger audience.

Carsten,

Thank you for pointing to the fix for this request.

Our bugfix policy however doesn't allow me to apply it to the stable branch. This is an enhancement request, not a bug.

So I will close this bug as fixed in head.

Steven, thanks you for your feedback. I notice you haven't replied to Carsten's last comment. I will boldly assume you found the necessary help via the gnucash-user mailing list and close this bug now. If not, I'll repeat Carsten and invite you to ask your question there. The mailing list is the best channel to use if you still need help.

Yes, I did find the solution via the gnucash-user mailing list. In case anyone gets here with the same problem, you cannot rename the old budget.scm file and save the new one in the same directory. You have to move the old file to another directory and save the new file in the report directory.

The new budget.scm is very helpful by the way. Thanks!
