Evince Pane widths

When I open Evince the thumbnail pane on left is always wider than the actual document view on right. (see attached)

The pane width cannot be changes by dragging the divider - it seems to be locked.

This version of Evince was installed with a fresh Mint Cinnamon install a few weeks ago.
