Gnome-shell brightness discrepancy

System-status menu incorrectly claims screen brightness is at 0%. Gnome-control-center reports the correct brightness level.

Please see screenshot for detail.

I have the same problem with Gnome 3.12. Worked fine on 3.10. Issue appears on both Fedora and Arch once upgraded to 3.12. Brightness slider at 0 on boot but actual brightness is 100%. Once clicked it works as expected. Running on Intel HD 3000.
