There are a number of places where there are two borders around UI elements. This makes the borders heavy and untidy looking. Places where there are two borders rather than one:

 * The top, bottom and left of the area around the contact list and search box.
 * All four sides of the contact pane when it is showing "Select a contact".

The attachment shows a 3.12 screenshot on top and a modified version with the extra borders remove below.
