This isn't a GNOME bug; gnome-software just uses the PackageKit backend and the AppStream metadata to run on any distro. You don't actually have to make any changes to gnome-software to make it work :) The recent Ubuntu work was to add workarounds in libappstream-glib, which is a new dep for 3.14.
