GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 726234
add software usage settings
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:11:45 UTC
At some point over the 3.11 cycle, the privacy panel grew an option to control when software usage data is shared with the distributor. The privacy policy provided is currently insufficient: * It isn't translatable. * It's desplayed in the browser. * It isn't clear what data is shared or what the implications are for the user. * It isn't clear who is providing the privacy policy. * To my knowledge, it hasn't been given the OK by legal. As such, I think we should remove this option from the settings, and ensure that software usage data aren't sent anywhere.
I'll do this later today.
commit e2c0fd8f8abf3f8a7fdcd20375a5d3ea76bfa69b Author: Richard Hughes <richard@hughsie.com> Date: Thu Mar 13 14:26:47 2014 +0000 privacy: Disable the software usage reporting due to various bugs Resolves: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=726234 After 3.12 I'll start working on the bullet points.
Lets turn this bug around, then
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
