Two similar looking buttons placed next to each other and different functionality?

Back history button is placed to close to the back scrolling tabs button which is often confusing. Another issue is that they look alike as well. Its frustrating that I would press back history button instead I meant to simply scroll thru tabs.

This issue could be easily avoided if the buttons are placed in different locations.

Mockup for potential solution.

Move "New Tab" button to the left to keep consistency other GNOME 3 apps and respect HIG.
Move back and forward buttons on the left and right side of address bar respectively.

Hi Denis. I agree with the bug report - the arrows are too similar.

However, the back and forward buttons do need to be on the far left hand side of the header bar - this is an established convention in browsers, and it would be pretty confusing for us to change it.

The good news is that we have designs for a new tab widget which will resolve the issue:

You can follow any progress on the relevant bug, which I'm marking this as a duplicate of.

Thanks for quick response, Allan. That's makes sense to me now. Can't wait to see those new tabs in action.
