Description Reverend Homer 2014-02-22 11:09:59 UTC
Please add subj to nm-applet. I really like GNOME 3 and, in particular, Cinnamon, but absence of DSL-connections drives me crazy.

Note that nm-applet is not the Gnome 3 network-indicator.

Please add nm-connection-editor settings and features to "network"

How can a gnome 3 user connect to pppoe/dsl connection if he/she doesn't know about nm-connection-editor?
Comment 3 Thomas Haller 2015-03-09 10:56:06 UTC
Reassigning bug to component control-center.

Note that nm-applet (which comes together with nm-connection-editor), are not the same as the Gnome 3 integration of NetworkManager (gnome-control-center).

How is it possible in this day and age to not have this feature included in the main GUI? it is not acceptable to lose the amount of time I did just to add myself a new PPPeo connection

Because none of the developers have hardware/setup for it. I'm pretty sure the NetworkManager developers, in addition to gnome-control-center developers, would be happy to take patches. There are certainly also consultants who would implement this for a fee.

I honestly don't think you need a specific setup for it since it already works by using nm-connections-editor. Once setup there it shows correctly in gnome network settings as well. So all that seems required is a way to add it straight from the control center, that can't be a big deal I suppose.

And how do you test it? I cannot, personally.

And you likely can't change many of the necessary settings to configure it if you ever made a typo.

The bug is specifically about adding support in the Network settings panel. Calling out to nm-connection-editor isn't a viable option.

gotcha.
I could volunteer for testing if that helps. I don't see this moving anywhere unless something of the kind happens :/

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version, then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new bug report at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
