GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 724554
java-atk-wrapper should be product.
Last modified: 2014-05-04 16:18:28 UTC
I say 'should' but actually, I am not sure. I think java-atk-wrapper should be a product since this module is not a component of at-spi but rather a git repository and a module of its very own but I am always a bit confused about how a product and/or a component definitions work in bugzilla world, so if I am wrong in making that assuming, please could you let me know why so I can better understand how querying works for such things so I can make note of that for future reference. Thanks!
FWIW, I agree that java-atk-wrapper should be a different module. We are already extending the meaning of module putting at-spi2-core and at-spi2-atk in the same product, but in the case of java-atk-wrapper it is even clearer. Having said so ... java-atk-wrapper is barely maintained right now, and the flow of bugs is not really high. So not sure if it is worth to do the work of adding a new module if nobody will really care for it. I think that this is something that bugzilla maintainers would need to decide.

It'd be handy if the modules each was a product as it is easy to get lost unless you know what you are looking for when you start out otherwise but be interested to know what the product translates to in git. I had always just assumed bugzilla product == git module Until I started not being able to find stuff like the java wrapper and now I am more confused than ever! > > Having said so ... java-atk-wrapper is barely maintained right now, and the > flow of bugs is not really high. Barely maintained or abandoned? I thought the latter - only based on what I have been told in passing and from looking at the age of the latest commits (real old) in the git repo... Curious. Is the 'bare maintainer' a single person or just anyone with the time and interest? Who might review the patches people have waiting on review in there at the moment for instance? > So not sure if it is worth to do the work of > adding a new module if nobody will really care for it. I think that this is I think this is very simple to implement actually but maybe I am mistaken. In any case, I am interested as I want to flex my java i.e. update this module so that should not stand in the way of progress. The problem (apart from figuring out where bugs are being filed for the modules - noe solved) is that have no idea who would review any work if anyone at a here's a bunch of unreviewed patches in there which could do with some love, any idea who to ask about that? Can I review them?
Ok, I have been looking around for a while and still no answers so I am going to let the facts guide me: 1. The last commit was in 2011[1] 2. Various latest patches submitted have not been reviewed[2] 3. Major issues remain unresolved [3] 4. This is free software[4] I am just going to work on this module and discuss some of the current patches with the java team or the a11y team, when they decide to talk about it. If someone can articulate why I should not do that, then they are welcome to do so. Unfortunately, I cannot do anything with silence and I do not see a valid reason for why this work should wait any longer than it has until that wall comes down. Hope that makes sense. Moving back to the bug itself: If the bugzilla team are keen to keep this module as a component rather than have it a product then I would suggest putting is as an atk component rather than an at-spi component (module is called 'java-atk-wrapper' so there's the clue ;-)
