GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 724353
GIMP hangs when renaming a layer with capital letters using shift key
Last modified: 2014-02-16 22:32:14 UTC
Steps to reproduce: - Open GIMP - Create a new image - Try to rename the layer to something containing a capital letter using the shift key GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.6.12 using GEGL version 0.0.22 (compiled against version 0.0.22) using GLib version 2.32.3 (compiled against version 2.32.1) using GTK+ version 2.24.10 (compiled against version 2.24.10) using Pango version 1.30.0 (compiled against version 1.30.0) using Fontconfig version 2.8.0 (compiled against version 2.8.0) I updated to 2.8 (using these instructions: http://www.maketecheasier.com/upgrade-to-gimp-2-8-in-ubuntu), but the problem exists there as well. GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.8.10 git-describe: GIMP_2_8_8-55-g9bb7eb0 using GEGL version 0.2.1 (compiled against version 0.2.1) using GLib version 2.32.3 (compiled against version 2.32.4) using GdkPixbuf version 2.26.1 (compiled against version 2.26.1) using GTK+ version 2.24.10 (compiled against version 2.24.10) using Pango version 1.30.0 (compiled against version 1.30.0) using Fontconfig version 2.8.0 (compiled against version 2.8.0) using Cairo version 1.10.2 (compiled against version 1.10.2) I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit.
GIMP 2.6 is long obsolete and unsupported, please try 2.8.10 and reopen if it still happens.
This was tried apparently, according to the comment. One could argue that the platform itself is obsolete, though. It should be reported in the Ubuntu bug tracker, I guess.
Sorry, how is the platform obsolete?
Ubuntu 12.04 has been released in 2012, with library versions of this time.. I know that it is a long term support release, but that's not really relevant to us - it matter a lot more to Ubuntu, of course. Any of these libraries could have an effect there; for example the current GTK+ 2.24.x is 2.24.22. The best approach for bugs in Ubuntu (LTS) would IMO be to do this in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp . It could be examined by the maintainers there, and reported upstream if it isn't found to be Ubuntu-specific.
Sorry I missed the part with 2.8 in your original report. But I really can't see how GIMP would be causing this. Much more likely is an Ubuntu GTK+ patch or input method issue.
Ah, ok, cheers. Yep, I already created one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/1280226
Thanks.
