GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 723992
Add back possibility to search current directory only
Last modified: 2014-02-10 17:42:32 UTC
Previously search-as-you-type in Nautilus searched only current directory which served as very handy directory filter. Currently, it does only recursive search. Such recursive search is sometimes (most of time for me) unneeded and eats a lot of resources which is very noticeable (laptop rotating drive, network file system, ...). Please add back an option to current directory only. Now you can choose between current directory recursive search and "All files" (whatever it is) via buttons on right: [<dir> | <All files>] I suggest turning current directory button into two like this: [<dir|▼> | <All files>] The down-arrow button would bring down menu to choose between recursive/non-recursive search. [<dir|▼> | <All files>] ______________________ |✓ Recursive | | Only this directory | |______________________|
Oh, and it should be remembered globally or there should at least be the possibility to configure it as default in preferences.
Thanks for the bug report. There are mockups for a Recursive search ON/OFF switch. https://raw.github.com/gnome-design-team/gnome-mockups/master/nautilus/search-wires.png (Personally, I would like to see the resource usage concerns addressed by default, not a setting to workaround them. This could be achieved by getting the first batch of results and loading more on demand (with "Load More" button, or implicitly as the user scrolls down). This way, we could have all the benefits of recursive search without using more resources than required.) This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but please feel free to report any further bugs you find. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 687002 ***
