GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 723298
Gnumeric will not open previously saved gnumeric file
Last modified: 2014-01-30 16:48:20 UTC
Using Xubuntu 13.10 which came with Gnumeric 1.12.6. Opening a new gnumeric file from scratch and saving it works fine and will re-open. However, an important previously saved file will not open. Gnumeric does nothing. The progress icon spins for a few seconds and nothing. Process Manager shows no Gnumeric process. Double clicking the file does nothing. If I open a new Gnumeric instance and click file open and then open the same file, Gnumeric say "reading file" at the bottom then the Gnumeric instance disappears.3 Can anyone solve this mystery?
1.12.6 has a bug that it cannot open gnumeric files that use frozen panes. This is fixed in 1.12.7. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This particular bug has already been reported into our bug tracking system, but we are happy to tell you that the problem has already been fixed. It should be solved in the next software version. You may want to check for a software upgrade. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 721598 ***
Note: if you unzip the file, open it as a text file and remove "<gnm:FreezePanes FrozenTopLeft="A1" UnfrozenTopLeft="A3"/> where A1 and A3 may be different cells, then it should open in 1.12.6 too.
