GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 722472
Import/Export Windows cursor files (.CUR)
Last modified: 2018-05-24 14:15:22 UTC
I would like to make cursors with Gimp (.cur files), but it doesn't support .cur files. I know I can make cursors with .ico files, but when I make a cursor with .ico files, the hotspot is way off. I'm sorry for posting this in a bug report, but I didn't know where else to post it.
Thank you for reporting this. The usual way for enhancement requests is to discuss them first at the GIMP user or developer mailing list. I started this discussion there, so you can follow or contribute your arguments: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-developer-list/2014-January/msg00083.html In the meantime I close this bug as invalid. This is no final decision - if the request gets accepted in the discussion, we'll reopen it.
We've [discussed] the topic on the GIMP developer mailing list and have agreed that this is a useful feature in terms of our product vision (GIMP is 'a high-end application for producing icons, graphical elements of web pages and art for user interface elements'). I looked around in the plug-in registry and former postings on the mailinglists. There I found that this request came up from time to time (often together with the wish for animated cursor files (.ani)). There was also a [solution] for .ani files at GIMPTalk, which could probably be used or GEGL-ified with some adaptions. The special task we have with the CUR format is that it includes information about the hotspot (where the mouse cursor points to). This information needs to be gathered and included in the file. [discussed] https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-developer-list/2014-January/msg00083.html [solution] http://www.gimptalk.com/index.php?showtopic=27281
