What are your Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This bug report isn't very useful because it doesn't describe the bug well. If you have time and can still reproduce the bug, please read http://bugzilla.gnome.org/bug-HOWTO.html and add a more useful description to this bug. What are your http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Locale_Settings ? See in report options, which stylesheet you are using. See in Edit->Stylesheet ... which fonts are used and report back.
Operating system is Vista Regional and language Options: Formats English (United States) Location United States Regional and language settings - English (United States) The Technicolor and default stylesheet both produced the same results. The fonts are SANS both bold and normal.

What kind of "custom report" is this? One that you wrote yourself in Scheme, or one where you changed some elements of a standard report in the Report Options dialog and saved? If the latter, what report did you start with, on what version of GnuCash? If the former, please attach your code. Are there any other elements appearing in Greek?

No other elements appear in greek. This is a transaction report with modified options from the standard reports. The report worked with version 2.6.0 of Gnucash. Additionally, Standard reports also appear with greek headings.
There seems to be a mismatch between the locale settings as seen by gnucash and guile. The latter is a library used by gnucash for the reports. There have been a few fixes in that area which will appear in gnucash 2.6.1 which will normally be released this weekend. Can you test this again when that version becomes available ?

I have updated to gnucash 2.6.1. The results are the same as before I updated. Can you point me to the place for the locale settings that I could check? Thanks
The most likely place is an environment variable. This Microsoft support page shows how to examine them: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310519 Look for LANG, LANGUAGE, LC_ALL, and LC_MESSAGES.
And can your run gnucash from a command prompt as follows: gnucash --debug That should generate a much more detailed trace file in which should be a few lines related to the locale settings the gnucash gets from the system and which it actually will use. Can you post these lines here as well please ? This page explains where to find the trace file: http://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Windows#Error_messages.2C_Trace_file
Here are the beginning lines of the trace file from guncash --debug. If you need more, please ask. * 19:34:25 INFO <gnc.gui> [main] System locale returned English_United States.1252 * 19:34:25 INFO <gnc.gui> [main] Effective locale set to English_United States.1252. * 19:34:25 INFO <gnc.engine> [gnc_hook_lookup] no hook lists * 19:34:25 INFO <qof.engine> [guid_init] got 2037 bytes * 19:34:25 WARN <qof.engine> [guid_init()] only got 2037 bytes. The identifiers might not be very random. * 19:34:25 INFO <gnc.backend.dbi> [gnc_module_init_backend_dbi] 3 DBD drivers found * 19:34:25 INFO <gnc.backend.dbi> [gnc_module_init_backend_dbi] Driver: mysql * 19:34:25 INFO <gnc.backend.dbi>
I don't know, what is right under Windows, but it seems you are using CP1252 instead of utf-8 as charset.
It surely looks like guile gets confused with the locale string for your system. Time for some more experiments: - In the directory where you installed GnuCash (c:\Program Files\gnucash or something similar) you will find a file environment in etc\gnucash - This is a simple text file. - Can you open this with Wordpad (or some other text editor, but don't try Notepad - that will mess up the file) - Near the end you will find some lines like: # LANG=nl_BE # LANGUAGE={LANG} - Change these to LANG=en_US.1252 LANGUAGE={LANG} - So remove the #-signs (and preceding whitespace) and change the value for LANG - Now save the file and rerun gnucash Do you still see the issue ?
FYI the previous experiment is meant to establish where the problem starts: with the longer country/language names on Windows or with the codepage.
It's certainly not CP1252, which doesn't have any Greek glyphs. I hadn't actually looked at the PDF he attached to the original report until today, and that's led all of us down the wrong path because the headings aren't in Greek. They're in English written in the Greek alphabet. Not only that, but if I copy the attached PDF and paste it here, and fix up the formatting: 84 Biltmore Expenses From 01/01/2014 To 12/31/2014 Date Description Amount January 2014 01/03/2014 Palmetto Electric Cooperative, Inc. $35.00 01/08/2014 Beaufort County Treasurer (2013 taxes) $2,033.78 Total For January 2014 $2,068.78 Grand Total $2,068.78 Plain ASCII, *rendered* in Greek letters. GnuCash doesn't know how to do that. Does WebKit? Can one do that with a style sheet?
I tried the LANG change. The results are the same as before. Greek letters in the headings. How did you fix up the formatting? I'll try anything.
Hmm, John has a good point. Rick, I wonder if gnucash is just doing some odd font replacements on your system. I'm not sure what style sheet you are using (looks like Technicolor though). Two possible avenues to try and fix this: 1. Via the Theme selector - In the GnuCash group in the start menu you will find a little program called "Select Theme" - In there you can select a default base font for gnucash (and other gtk based applications should you have some) - After you have changed the font here, restart gnucash and check if your report has improved. If not - 2. Please go to Edit->Style Sheets - select the relevant style sheet (eg Technicolor) - click "Edit" - click Fonts - change all the fonts in there - save and close - reopen the report selecting the altered style sheet How does the report display now ?
Note: this bug is very likely related to bug 721435. It has similar symptoms except that there the accounts/amounts are improperly rendered and the headings are ok.
Thanks for the advice. I changed the base font to Georgia. The reports now work as anticipated. All the letters are US English. Both standard and custom reports function equally well.
