GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 722451
Music can't handle symbolic links
Last modified: 2015-03-05 08:51:45 UTC
I have music folders from other partitions symlinked in ~/Music but gnome-music can't find them, Rhythmbox does, I can't tell if it's related to report 706948 but that seems to be a different issue. Thanks in advance.
Music uses Tracker which doesn't follow symlinks. Please contact Tracker developers in order to change this behavior See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/140017/comments/1

In our home we have more than one computer and more than one user: me, wife, kids, parents, etc. We have a large music collection and there is no reason to copy big music library into home directory for each user. Music library is mounted with autofs to /net/plywood/music directory, so everybody has a symlink in ~/Music/ to ../../../net/plywood/music/. But gnome-music ignores symlinks. Oops. Your position "it was not me!" is not acceptable. I, as a gnome-music user, have no idea what is Tracker. What could I say to Tracker developers? I believe you should apply to Tracker developers, because you can explain the problem in more detail and your request would attract more respect.
> See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tracker/+bug/140017/comments/1 BTW, There is no need to send us to external resource. Tracker is a Gnome component. There is a bug #726264 in this bugzilla. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=726264
