Nautilus screen with non-visible filenames

Typing characters into the main Nautilus filename display area to restrict the view (or search) now loses the filename column and shows only a small portion of the filenames. When in this mode, the column is not resizeable, and so no filenames can be seen.

This has always been a problem with Nautilus 3.x but has become worse in recent releases. It makes the feature unusable.
