GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 72113
Editing a profile in the Gnome Terminal is not possible.
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Reproducibility : Always Procedure: 1. Invoke the Gnome terminal. 2. Select Terminal: Edit Current Profile. 3. The Edit dialog box come up with six tabs. In each of the tab there is only a 'Close' button so that if any change is made in the properties of the profile, it cannot be stored. 4. In the 'Effects' tab select 'Transparent background' and then one has to select 'Close' as there is no 'OK' or 'Apply' button. The current screen background does not become transparent. 5. Repeat step2. Go to the 'Effects' tab. The change made in step 4 is not restored. Foreground and background colors of the terminal can be set but no other changes can be made to the set up of the terminal.
All the changes instant-apply, as with most of GNOME 2 - so you only need a Close button. Some of the prefs aren't hooked up though, including the Effects and Keybindings tabs. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 71439 ***
I have observed that some of the changes like changing the background and foreground colors and also change in scroll bar settings are set instantly, but in the 'Effects' tab if we want to make the background transparent or want to set any image as the background then that is not getting set and the change is not hapenning instantly. The change is not getting stored also so that if I click on 'Close' button after that and open this dialog again the changes are not getting replected in the dialog. Should I file it as a separate bug?
No, the problem is just that changing Effects or Keybindings does nothing whatsoever at the moment; it's not implemented yet. Bug 71439 tracks this problem.
The Effects tab options do not work on the latest 1.91 version of the terminal also. The options like setting the background of the terminal as transparent or seeting some image as the background of the terminal are not working. Is not this a major bug?
There's just a bug in libzvt that keeps the terminal from being redrawn when you set the background. Try changing to transparent, then dragging another window over the top of the terminal to cause a redraw. I think you or someone else just reported this redraw issue for changing colors. Anyway, libzvt needs fixing in this respect.
In that case I cannot mark the bug as closed because the problem will persist libzvt is fixed. I will reopen it and prefer to keep it that way till the problem gets solved.
Already tracked on libzvt. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 74055 ***
