Description m8r-vrb23i 2013-12-23 00:08:17 UTC
### Short description ###

Known affected images :
*   gparted-live-0.17.0-beta2-1-amd64.zip
*   gparted-live-0.17.0-1-amd64.zip

GParted boots straight to console (instead of the expected behavior of
booting straight to X), and in the console it is necessary to input a
username + password ; however username:'user' + password:'live' *does
not work*, which is strange since [url:http://gparted.org/livecd.php]
instructs to use 'user' + 'live' ; For the record, I also tried other
combinations of username + password : user+user, live+user, live+live,
user+gparted, etc. etc., and obviously none worked. I also googled
around for “ GParted Live CD default password ”, but found nothing.

The issue was resolved by using a different GParted image, namely :
*   gparted-live-stable-0.17.0-1-i486.iso

### Other details ###

In the summary for this bug I wrote “ Some GParted images ” since I only
tried three images, and the third one worked just fine ; obviously there
could be more than two images to have a seemingly undocumented default
username+password.

Also for this bug report I selected “All” for the “OS” since obviously
the OS I run is irrelevant when booting a machine with a live USB,
but just in case it makes any difference, I run Linux and I created all
three live CD (actually live USB) by following exactly the steps
detailed at [url:http://gparted.org/liveusb.php] ; specifically, for
both *.zip images (which both had the unkown username+password) I used
this method : [url:http://gparted.org/liveusb.php#linux-method-b], and
for the *.iso image (which logged me in fine), I used this method :
[url:http://gparted.org/liveusb.php#linux-method-d]. But regardless of
the method used to *create* the liveUSB, all three images booted fine,
with the exception that I couldn’t actually *use* the two first ones
since it was impossible to log in.

Thank you for reporting this problem with a high level of detail.

I was able to confirm the problem using gparted-live-0.17.0-1-amd64.zip and installing it to a USB flash drive using Linux Method B
[url:http://gparted.org/liveusb.php#linux-method-b]

Steven,

When you have a chance would you be able to investigate further?

Thanks for the bug report. I confirmed this issue. It's because some boot parameters are missing for the zip release. This does not happen in the iso file.
I will create another release today.

Steven.

An updated version is available here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gparted/files/gparted-live-testing/0.17.0-4/
Could you please test it again and let us know the results.
Thanks.

Steven.

Thank you Steven for creating a new GParted Live .zip image.

My testing of gparted-live-0.17.0-4-amd64.zip on my computer has been successful. This new image now boots properly and no longer prompts for a username/password. :)

Unfortunately I think that the m8r-vrb23i@devnullmail.com email address does not receive email based on the "dev null" reference in the title. As such I do not expect we will receive any feedback.

As such I am closing this report as FIXED.
