Description Fabian Greffrath 2013-12-02 15:58:58 UTC
I open Cheese and see myself sitting in front of my laptop. Then I click on "Effects" and the effects preview grid opens. I click on "Hulk" - nothing happens. I click again and nothing happens. I double click and yet nothing happens.

Then I click three times in the preview field for the "Hulk" effect, changing the mouse pointer position randomly between my clicks - the effect is applied and the "Effects" preview grid closes.

I don't know if this is a bug with my specific software or hardware setup, or if this behaviour is intended, but changing effects leaves a strong unresponsive impression...

Review of attachment 264791 [details] [review]:

ClutterTapAction is documented to respond to both taps (from touch events) and clicks (from pointer events):

https://developer.gnome.org/clutter/stable/ClutterTapAction.html#ClutterTapAction.description

I cannot reproduce the problematic behaviour in Cheese with Fedora 20 (built in jhbuild), with either a touchscreen or mouse. If the bug is in Clutter, the best way to confirm is to come up with a simple test-case and file a Clutter bug, or reassign this bug to Clutter (once a test-case has been written).
Comment 4 Dustin Falgout 2014-01-07 08:20:13 UTC
I have this issue as well except I am never able to successfully select an effect. I can scroll through the grid pages but no amount of clicks or key presses on the keyboard result in an effect being selected.

System Info:

OS: Arch Linux x86_64
Kernel Release: 3.12.6-1-ARCH
DE: Cinnamon 2.0.14
GTK+: 3.10.6
Clutter: 1.16.2
Comment 5 Shenal Silva 2014-01-07 14:58:48 UTC
Hi Dustin please try the patch and let me know if it fixes the issue. If not we might be looking at two different issues
Comment 6 Dustin Falgout 2014-01-07 16:58:01 UTC
Looks like you are right. The patch doesn't fix it. Should I start a new report?
Comment 7 rpr 2014-03-30 18:51:25 UTC
On Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon amd64 I see that cheese 3.10.2 behaves as reported by Dustin in comment #4. The system has the following packages installed:

Linux kernel: 3.11.0-18-generic
DE: Cinnamon 2.0.14
libgtk-3-0: 3.8.7
libclutter-1.0-0: 1.14.6-0

But on the same hardware cheese 3.8.3 doesn't have the issue on Linux Mint 16 amd64 with MATE desktop (clutter 1.14.4-3).
Comment 8 rpr 2015-04-27 21:57:55 UTC
On Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon amd64 I see that cheese 3.10.2 does not have this issue any more. The system has the following packages installed:

Linux kernel: 3.16.0-30-generic
DE: Cinnamon 2.4.8
libgtk-3-0: 3.10.8~8
libclutter-1.0-0: 1.16.4-0

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all
old bug reports and feature requests in GNOME Bugzilla which have not seen
updates for a long time.

If you still use cheese and if you still see this bug / want this feature in a
recent and currently supported version, then please feel free to report it at
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/cheese/-/issues/

Thank you for creating this report and we are sorry it could not be implemented
(volunteer workforce and time is quite limited).
