GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 719462
If adding online account times out, g-i-s exits uncleanly and you are stuck at a useless screen
Last modified: 2013-11-28 04:37:03 UTC
I observed this bug the first time I hit https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=719458 , as a kind of consequence of that one. I hit that bug as described in that report. When I saw the keyring password prompt pop up I was a bit surprised, so I popped over to IRC and queried it, then popped back to the VM and waited a bit, then went ahead and entered a keyring password. This apparently took me more than 30 seconds. After I entered the keyring password, I recall briefly seeing some kind of message about a 30 second timeout for the account addition expiring, and then g-i-s disappeared entirely and just left me at a screen with nothing but a background and a top panel with the accessibility icon. No user account was created, no action was possible besides going to a VT and logging in as root, or rebooting somehow. On reboot, g-i-s ran again.
OK, reproduced it. Just be slow about setting the keyring password. Once you do, a dialog pops up: 'Error creating account Timeout was reached' with a Close button (no other button). You hit Close, and g-i-s just disappears, leaving you at the blank screen.
Created attachment 262997 [details] journal after reproducing the issue. This is right after g-i-s goes away and leaves me at a useless screen; switched to VT2, logged in as root, grabbed the log.
Hum. There's a traceback in the logs. If I abrt it, I get https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1027507 , which has rather different reproduction steps, but apparently hits the same crash. That's been reported upstream as 711641 , so duping. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 711641 ***
