display extended information in sidebar
Last modified: 2018-06-16 10:58:46 UTC
---- Reported by adam@yorba.org 2010-05-14 09:28:00 -0700 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 1918 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/1918 Searchable id: yorba-bug-1918 Original author: Adam Dingle Original description: Shotwell currently displays extended photo information in a separate window. Some users have asked for it to appear in a sidebar area instead (as in some other photo programs such as Aperture). I think this is worth considering. Related issues: related to shotwell - Feature #2401: show more information in basic information area (Open) related to shotwell - Feature #1928: Extended information in popup menu (Open) related to shotwell - Feature #2400: show more metadata in extended information (Open) related to shotwell - Feature #5709: display seconds in photo date/time (Fixed) ---- Additional Comments From shotwell-maint@gnome.bugs 2012-07-31 03:38:00 -0700 ---- ### History #### #1 Updated by Marcel Stimberg over 3 years ago I also would like to see the extended information in the sidebar – I was quite surprised when a new window showed up. Given that in the menu it is below “basic information†and worded the same, I expected it to be another checked/unchecked option. Having something like a Gtk.Notebook or Gtk.!ToolPalette in the sidebar (similar to F-Spot) would also open room for future extensions, e.g. displaying a map for geotagged pictures. #### #2 Updated by Alexander Menk over 3 years ago * **Priority** set to _High_ I do not like the idea of Tabs so much (is that was a Gtk.Notebook does) ? I think some + signes or triangles would be cool to add the additional information you want. And I think this could also be a place for some nice extended buttons to use all those bits of information nicely. Basic [+] .... As it is now, I always select 'always on top' for that window, because otherwise it will disappear below the shotwell window whenever I select another photo. But still that is also a bit inconvenient, because then it is difficult to position it so that is isn't over the picture. #### #5 Updated by Adam Dingle over 2 years ago * **Priority** set to _High_ #### #6 Updated by anarcat - over 2 years ago Please keep it simple, just get rid of the popup would be the right first step. :) These issues would be also closed if we merge the boxes: #2779 #2400 #2401 In fact, #2401 had an interesting suggestion: just show the information from the extended info box in the basic info box when it is resized! #2779 suggests the window be dockable, but that seems like only a crude workaround. I was tempted to close the issue as a dupe of this one altogether, but I am not sure this is culturally acceptable here. ;) Also note this could be in conflict with what was apparently decided in #1928, to make the extended info box a real popup accessible with a right click, but as I said there, I think we can do both. #### #7 Updated by Adam Dingle about 2 years ago * **Subject** changed from _possibly display extended information in sidebar_ to _display extended information in sidebar_ * **Description** updated (diff) #### #8 Updated by Adam Dingle over 1 year ago * **Description** updated (diff) * **Target version** set to _0.13_ #### #9 Updated by Adam Dingle over 1 year ago * **Target version** deleted (<strike>_0.13_</strike>) --- Bug imported by chaz@yorba.org 2013-11-25 21:44 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 1918 at http://redmine.yorba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1918 Unknown Component Using default product and component set in Parameters Unknown version " in product shotwell.
